Over the years of building and leading distributed teams, I’ve learned to cherish a small set of values that consistently shape how we work and what we can achieve together.
Reliable systems don’t exist without visibility.
We value knowing what’s happening right now — and what happened before. We care about understanding patterns, trends, and the natural flow of our systems over time. We build software that tells us what it’s doing and why it failed when it does.
Good monitoring isn’t about drowning in dashboards or alerts. It’s about signal over noise. Alerts should prepare us for situations that need attention, not train us to ignore them. Observability is a form of respect for the system and for the people responsible for it.
And once you start seeing clearly, another truth emerges: no one should have to carry that understanding alone.
